Somers – Gordon D. "Gus" Erritt
79, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Good Samaritan
Society in Manson. Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 2,
at the Prairie Valley Elementary School, north of Farnhamville, with
Rev. Dwaine Simonsen officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00
p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell
City, with a Masonic Rite Service at 7:00 p.m. Private family burial of
casket will be at the Cedar Township Cemetery, Rinard.
Gus is survived by his wife Joyce; son Jeff (Dess) Erritt of Somers; daughter Teresa (Adam) Dickinson of Webster City; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother John (Carole) Erritt of Somers; sister Janet (Daniel) Bird of Somers; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John "Jack" and Virginia (Black) Erritt.

Gordon Dean Erritt was born July 31, 1938 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Somers High School, with the Class of 1956. Following his education, Gus drove truck. On February 24, 1962 he was united in marriage to Joyce McKenney at the Somers Methodist Church in Somers. The couple made their home on a farm near Somers and farmed for most of their lives. In addition to farming, Gus also was a school bus driver for the Cedar Valley School District for 27 years. He was a member of the Twin Lakes Masonic Lodge #478 A.F. & A.M., and the Somers United Methodist Church. Gus enjoyed tractor shows and horse shows.
