Rockwell City Dorothy L. Siemann 98, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Sunny Knoll Care Centre, Rockwell City. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022 at St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor Denise Berns officiating. Burial of casket will be at Cedar Township Cemetery near Rinard. Visitation will 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. 

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Carol Rae (Don) Presley of Lake City; granddaughters, Robyn (Aaron Vonnahme) Davis of Arcadia and their children, Macie, Brennan, Makinnon, Madisson, Trey, and Will; and Jennifer Steinkuehler of Des Moines, and her children Jaelyn, Jadyn, Jacey, and Jaleya; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis Siemann; parents, Walter and Carrie (Pirie) Cafferty; sisters, Velma Lyle and Arlene Sandeen; and brother Cleo (Jean) Cafferty. 

Dorothy Lee Cafferty was born January 9, 1924 at Rinard, Iowa. She graduated from Rinard High School, with the Class of 1942. Dorothy was baptized in the Lohrville Christian Church and later became a member of the Lutheran Church. On June 27, 1945 she was united in marriage to Carl Robert Bottin and one daughter Carol was born to this union. The couple later divorced. In November of 1993, she was united in marriage to Francis Siemann. Dorothy and Francis enjoyed traveling and dancing. Dorothy worked at the Coast to Coast Store in Rockwell City for 25 years until her retirement in 1992. Dorothy was a hardworking person and enjoyed her many friends. Francis passed away in 2010. Dorothy became a resident of Sunnyview Independent Living in Rockwell City. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church. Dorothy loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, embroidering, dancing, and giving away jewelry crosses. Diagonal - Lois Anita Dubbe, daughter of Rev. Herman John Henry Dubbe and Augusta Amelia (Wegner) Dubbe, was born December 1, 1921, in Milford, Nebraska. She passed away on January 1, 2023, at her home near Diagonal, Iowa, at the age of 101 years.

Lois graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1939 and attended business school for two years. She was employed as a secretary and worked several years at Fort Dodge Laboratories. Lois was united in marriage to Wayne Lacock on May 25, 1949, in Fort Dodge. The couple farmed and raised registered Black Angus cattle northwest of Farnhamville until moving to town in 1986. They raised three children: James Lacock of Fort Dodge, Ann (Jim) Werner of Diagonal, and Linda Gabriel of Sarasota, Florida. Lois was active in bridge club, pinochle club, and women’s club. She loved music and sang in the Fort Dodge presentation of the Messiah for several years. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, playing the piano, and following the activities of her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful and much-loved mom and grandma.Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Wayne; a sister, Miriam Bybee; and brothers-in-law, Mel Mandelko and Dave Bybee.

Survivors include a sister, Corinne Mandelko; son James; daughters Ann and Linda; five grandchildren, Christina (Jeremy) Mauthe, Becky (Craig) Hays, Bonnie (Will) Larson, Clint (Marci) Werner, and Joe (Heather) Werner; fifteen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.Memorials are to EveryStep Hospice in Mount Ayr, Iowa. A private service will be held on Wednesday, January 4. Burial will be on Thursday, January 5 at Cedar Township Cemetery near Rinard, Iowa.

Steven Craig Miller was born January 19, 1956 at Somers, Iowa. He graduated from Cedar Valley High School, with the Class of 1974. Steve served in the United States Air Force. On June 16, 1979 he was united in marriage to Linda A. Melton at their home in Rinard and two daughters, Kristina and Kailee were born to this union. Steve drove truck for many years. In 1994, he graduated from Iowa State University with a Construction Engineer degree. Following his education, Steve worked as an engineer for several different companies until his retirement. Jean Rae Kennedy was born on February 2, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Lavina “Pat” (Paterson) Kennedy. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Merle Dale Porter Sr. Jean earned her G.E.D. and furthered her education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. On July 2, 1966, Jean was united in marriage to Carl Dean Graffunder at the Christian Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. To this union seven children were born: Carl Jr., Carla, Charles Dale, Joan, Jayleen, Christopher, and Rachel. Jean and Carl lived in Fort Dodge and Somers prior to establishing their home in Lehigh in 1973. Her employment included Friendship Haven and Globe Union in Fort Dodge, serving school lunches at the Southeast Webster Elementary School in Dayton, Casey’s General Store in Dayton, and the Food Center in Lehigh. Jean belonged to the Lehigh Christian Church and the Lehigh Women’s Club. Her hobbies included crafting, making clothes pin wreaths, and crocheting blankets for her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Carla Graffunder and Rachel Graffunder, one son, Christopher Graffunder, her twin brother, Eugene Ray Patterson, brothers, Rick Johns and Bob Porter, and her sisters, Claudette Kelley, and Kathy Deimerly.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Carl Graffunder of Lehigh, IA; children, Carl Graffunder Jr. of Lytton, IA, Charles Dale (Mary) Graffunder of Ely, IA, Joan (Andy) Whitson of Fonda, IA, and Jayleen Graffunder of Leonard, MI; ten grandchildren, Samantha, Faith, Cody, Cierra, Tayler, Charles, Brittany, Andrea, Wesley, and Jordyn; five great-grandchildren, Kira, Kinnick, Parker, Riley, and Kamaria, and a sixth great-grandchild due to arrive in July; siblings, Louis Kennedy Jr., Sandy (Richard) Graffunder, Karen “Karlotta” Welch, Edith Green, Merle (Laura) Porter, Pete (Sandra) Porter and Marty (Thomas) Lininger; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry Wilson, Sr.; 2 brothers, 2 sisters; step-son, Robby Wilson. 

Gayle Roberta Chase was born November 22, 1936 in Fort Dodge where she was raised and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1954. On July 16, 1960 she was united in marriage to Larry Wilson Sr. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge where Gayle worked for Ben Franklin and Mayer Portraits. The couple eventually moved to Somers where they owned and operated G & L Grocery. Eventually Gayle retired after being the Calhoun County Outreach Director for over 30 years. In 2013, the couple moved to Jefferson, where Gayle enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She never knew a stranger and saw everyone as equal and with potential. She always had a helping hand for anyone in need, She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Memorials may be left to family discretion. Diane Janette Batcheller Reed was born on Wednesday August 1, 1945 at Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson, Iowa, to her parents, Martin and Betty (Rodgers) Batcheller. Her early years sparked her love for travel as the family lived in Halfa, Estherville, Gowrie, Austin (Minnesota), and Paton. She graduated from Churdan High School in 1963. It was through mutual friends that she met her husband, Don Reed, and they were married on Jan. 18, 1964. The couple settled in Gowrie where they welcomed two sons, Jason Wayne and Justin Martin. Their house was always open and it was a gathering place for kids. Diane worked for Consolidated Cooperative, Jerry Bower Insurance, served as the Gowrie City Clerk, and was a paralegal for attorney Dean Erb. Don and Diane moved to rural Harcourt where they currently reside. Diane was a member of Gowrie United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She enjoyed bowling with her friends, going dancing, scratching a lottery ticket, and traveling. Diane loved animals, especially any stray cat who passed through. You'd find her in the stands and on the sidelines as she always supported her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, and nephews in anything and everything they did. 

Diane is survived by her husband, Don of Harcourt; son, Jason (Amy) of West Virginia; grandson, Kyle (Michelle) of Fort Dodge; sister, Cheri (Don) Ferguson of Churdan; great-grandchildren, Karter, Brielle, Kaleb, and Brooklyn Diana Reed; step-grandchildren, Kyle Wince and Steven (Callie) Wince; step-great-grandchildren, Maylene Wince and Leon Wince; brothers-in-law, Joe (Claudia) Reed of Carroll, Bert (Rose) Reed of Badger; Jim (Kay) Reed of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. Gordon W. Hansch

 November 13, 1931 - September 1, 2015

Spirit Lake - Gordon Hansch, age 83, of Spirit Lake, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa. He was born on November 13, 1931, on the farm home in Duncombe, Iowa, to Emil and Velma (Telschaw) Hansch. 
Gordon and his parents moved to Rockwell City in 1943, and graduated from high school in 1950. He enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army in February of 1952, during the Korean War. Gordon served three years and was honorably discharged in 1955. After basic training in Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, Gordon also received training in the repair of the electronic guidance system of the Nike guided missile and later served as a Radar Technician repairing electronic equipment. He served in Maryland, Fort Monmuth, New Jersey and although he was in the Army, he was also stationed and served in the Seattle Defense Area out of the Bremerton Naval Station because this was the "Cold War Period", before serving in Korea. 

Gordon was united in marriage to Lois Wendt on October 21, 1956, and they farmed east of Rockwell City, from 1956, until 1986. He became a licensed realtor in 1983, while still farming, and worked for Iowa Realty in Fort Dodge, until they moved to Spirit Lake, where he continued as a full-time realtor with Dowden-Hinn Realtors. 

Gordon is survived by his wife, Lois Hansch of Spirit Lake; four sons, Kevin Hansch, and his wife, Marin of Somerset, Wisconsin, Scott Hansch, and his wife, Miste of Rockwell City, Paul Hansch, and his wife, Danielle of Clarion, and David Hansch, and his wife, Rhonda of Luck, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Emily McAnally of Ft. Dodge; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gilbert Hansch of Pomeroy. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 4, 2015, at Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be Friday, at 3:30 P.M. at Cedar Township Cemetery in Rinard, Iowa.

Velma is survived by her children, Pamela Vote of Fort Dodge, Bruce (Tammy) Binkley of Jefferson, Janet Allen of Jacksonville, NC, Peggy Binkley of Okoboji, and Tina Binkley of Fort Dodge; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine (Pederson) Jenkins, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. 

Velma Katherine Jenkins was born January 30, 1936 in Fort Dodge. She attended school and graduated from Oak Park Academy in Nevada in 1954. Following her education, she taught country schools for several years. She was then a homemaker and later worked for Casey's General Stores for 13 years. Velma was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends and always made sure everyone was fed when they visited her house. Daniel Bird was born December 4, 1939 to Bernard and Loretta (Sharp) Bird at Fort Dodge, Iowa. On January 5, 1972, he was united in marriage to Janet Erritt at Elk Point, South Dakota. Dan and Janet were married for 48 years and made their home in the Somers Community. Dan grew up in Fort Dodge and was the co-owner of Richardson & Bird Concrete Construction until his retirement in 1999. Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and telling the many stories that made people laugh. Dan enjoyed having local friends stop and drink coffee in the morning. Manson - David Bernard Wienhold, 69, of Manson passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Our Savior United Methodist Church in Manson with burial following at the Cedar Cemetery, in Rinard, IA.

David was born in Emmetsburg, IA on March 5, 1954, to Bernard and Irene (Schroeder) Wienhold. He graduated from Havelock-Plover High School in 1972. Dave was united in marriage to Pauline Susan Moeller on September 14, 1974, in Somers, IA. They would have celebrated 49 years of marriage this September.

David graduated in 1974 from Iowa Central Community College with a degree in criminal justice, as well as the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston. His career in law enforcement started as a police officer in Manson in June of 1974. He later joined the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department working as a deputy. From 1985-1993 he worked as the Chief of Police in Manson. He then worked as a janitor and bus driver for the Manson NW Webster School system until 1999 when he went on to work as a security officer for Trinity Regional Medical Center, retiring in 2018. He continued to drive a school bus route until March of 2019.  David was a member of Our Savior United Methodist Church in Manson. He loved spending time with his family,  going to grandkid’s sporting events and activities, and frequenting casinos.

David is survived by his wife Pauline; children Jennifer (David) Corell of Gowrie, IA, Jody Wienhold (Mike Shiflett) of Pocahontas, IA, and Christopher (Allison) Wienhold of Cedar Falls, IA; grandchildren Lexi, Addie, Drew & Anna Corell, Kylie Wienhold, Taylor & Logan Shiflett and Noah and Henry Wienhold; siblings Phyllis Cooper, Sharon Gammel, Larry (Sandy) Wienhold, Diane Albers and Mike (Deb) Wienhold. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Irene; in-laws Marion and Doris Moeller; brothers-in-law Lyle Albers and Jay Moeller; niece Jessica Brokish and her three children Finn, Liam, and Amelia and his nephew Randy Cooper.

Janice is survived by her husband Andy; daughters, Dianna Birkland of Spring, TX, and Andrea Birkland of Austin, TX; sister Joyce (Gordon) Erritt; brothers, Denny (Judy) McKenney, and Kenny (Kelley) McKenney; sister-in-law Juanita Borland; brother-in-law Beryl (Marilyn) Birkland; several nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrl and Virginia (Good) McKenney; infant brother Duane McKenney; and brother-in-law Frank Borland.

Janice Marie McKenney Birkland was born December 21, 1936 at Logan, Iowa, and graduated from Somers High School, with the Class of 1955. She also graduated from Capital City Commerical College in Des Moines with a secretarial degree. Janice was employed with a trucking company while living in Des Moines, before returning to Somers and working at Glaser Meats in Fort Dodge. While employed at the State Bank in Fort Dodge, she met her husband Andy. They were united in marriage on October 13, 1962 at Somers. Janice worked a variety of jobs in the Somers and Fort Dodge areas including Cedar Valley Community School and Community Christian School. Janice was a member of New Covenant Christian Churchand United Methodist Women in Somers. Janice enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, attending family sporting and Church activities, mission trips to New York City, China, and Freedom Restoration Ministries. Following the couple’s retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Texas to visit their daughters.

Audrey Lynn Gleason

 May 6 1986 - July 18, 2022


Fort Dodge - Audrey Lynn Gleason Short, 36, of Fort Dodge, recently gave her life to Jesus Christ, and was taken to her Heavenly home on Monday, July 18th, 2022, surrounded by family and her best friend, Mindy. 

Audrey was born to Brian and Vicki (Board) Gleason on May 6, 1986 in Iowa City. She was born in the infancy of her parents' auto glass business, and spent a lot of time at their shop as a child, often creating playhouses out of cardboard windshield boxes. Audrey returned to the family business to work alongside her dad as the office manager of Visions Auto Glass for 14 years. Audrey brought three beautiful children into the world: Mya, Thomas, and Lily. Her kids were the light of her life, and together they shared an abundance of joy and endless memories that will forever be treasured. 

Audrey is survived by her children, Mya (20) of Cedar Falls, Tom (16) and Lily (13), both of Fort Dodge, parents Brian and Vicki Gleason of Rockwell City, sister Abby (Jim) Stocker, of Jewell, and their children, Sawyer, Kenny, and Connor, grandmother Carol Board of Rockwell City, special aunts Tina and Dawn, who were more like her sisters, and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Audrey is preceded in death by her grandparents, Kenny and Thelma Gleason, and Roy Board, uncle Mark (Albert) Schilling, honorary grandmother Neva Imhoff, as well as her dear friend, Brian Scott. A public visitation service will be held on Friday, July 22nd from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Palmer & Swank Funeral Home in Rockwell City. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials will be divided among Audrey's three children. Janet D. Klein

 January 27, 1951 - January 9, 2015


Janet Klein, 63, of Rinard went to be with her Lord surrounded by her loving family on Friday January 9, 2015 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 17, 2015 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. 

Janet was born on January 27, 1951 to Wallace & Geraldine (Musfelt) Knapp in Lebanon, Oregon. She spent most of her youth and young adult life growing up in Warren, Illinois. In 1968 she relocated to Iowa. Janet married Arthur Klein Jr. on November 17, 1978 in Fort Dodge. She worked for Ellen's as a Supervisor and Dollar General as a Store Manger as well as many other jobs. One of her greatest achievements was obtaining her GED in 1996. Janet loved roses and orchids, playing bingo and was an avid animal lover. Janet will most be remembered as being a loving mother to her children, step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

Janet is survived by her husband Arthur Klein Jr.; children Wade Knapp & Michelle, Kathryn Kozal (Shannon), Jolene Wickersheim (Mike), Evelyn Andreoli (Aren); step-child Karrie Llewellyn ( Harley); a close niece Jennifer Knapp; 18 grandchldren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers Merlyn " Curly", Wallace "Butch", Carl; sisters Mary and Wanda; her loving in-laws and many nieces and nephews. 

Janet is preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Geraldine Knapp; sister Willa Charlton, and mother and father in law Catherine & Arthur Klein Sr.

Somers - Joyce A. Erritt 79, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Manson, Iowa. Private Family Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, with Pastor Allan Redenius officiating. Burial of casket will be at Cedar Township Cemetery near Rinard. A Public Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. 

Joyce is survived by her son Jeff (Dess) Erritt of Somers; daughter Teresa (Adam) Dickinson of Webster City; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis (Judy) McKenney of Somers, and Kenneth (Kelly) McKenney of Otho; brother-in-law Andy Birkland of Somers; sister-in-law Janet Bird of Somers; brother and sister-in-law, John and Carole Erritt of Somers; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon "Gus" Erritt; parents, Myrl and Virginia Good McKenney; infant brother Duane; sister Janice Birkland; and brother-in-law Daniel Bird. Joyce A. McKenney was born January 21, 1941 at Logan, Iowa. She graduated from Cedar Valley Schools. On February 24, 1962 she was united in marriage to Gordon "Gus" Erritt at the Somers United Methodist Church in Somers. The couple made their home on a farm near Somers and farmed for most of their lives. Joyce also worked at American State Bank, the JC Penny Co., and was a librarian for the Somers Library until her retirement. Gus passed away in 2018. Joyce was a member of the Eastern Star, and the Somers United Methodist Church.
