Emma C. Johnson

December 28, 1919 - December 8, 2010

Emma Johnson, the daughter of William and Theresia (Alliger) Ehspanner, was born December 28, 1919 on her family farm north of Lohrville, Iowa and departed this life December 8, 2010 at the Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City, Iowa. She lived her life to the age of 90 years, 11 months and 10 days.

Emma graduated from the Rinard High School in 1937. On June 21, 1943, Emma Ehspanner was united in marriage to Glen Johnson at Lohrville, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Rinard area and later took over the family farm where they made their home. Emma worked along side of Glen on the farm, milking cows, planting gardens, canning garden vegetables and helping with the field work. Emma also was a cook for six years at the Cedar Valley Junior High School. She was a terrific cook. Glen retired from farming in 1985 due to ill health. He passed away in October of 1992. Emma continued to make her home on the family farm until due to her health she became a resident of the Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City in 2007.

Emma was an active member of the Rinard United Methodist Church for many years and worked every church and funeral dinner until the church's closing. She was also a member of the U.M.W., Ladies Aid and a 4-H Leader.

Emma is survived by her children; Jon Johnson (Joyce Ellen) of Grimes, Joyce Fiacco (James) of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Carol Johnson of Lohrville, Sharon Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Duane Johnson of Lohrville; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnson (Deidre) of Darien, Illinois, Jennifer Derby (Ryan) of Grimes and Jason Fiacco of Iowa Falls, a precious great granddaughter, Emily (Emmie) Nicole Derby of Grimes and one dear sister, Erna (Kenny) Christofferson of Bethany, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A private family service was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 11, 2010 from the Brown Funeral Home in Churdan, Iowa with Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment was made in the Cedar Cemetery near Rinard, Iowa. Musical selections, "Amazing Grace" and "It Is Well" were sung by Julia Wiewiora and accompanied by her husband, Brian.

Serving as casket bearers were James Ebers, James Christofferson, Jeff Johnson, Jason Fiacco, Jim Orber and Clay Sandberg. Honorary casket bearer was Tony Ehspanner.
