SOMERS - John D. Vote, 84, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at his home in Somers. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the United Methodist Church, Somers, with Pastor Kristina Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Township Cemetery, Rinard. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.John is survived by his children, Patricia (John) Lomicka of Callender, Marilyn Vote of Somers, John Paul (Peg) Vote of Somers, Gerald (Jody) Vote of Goldfield, Sherry Barber of Slifer, and Terry Vote of Somers; daughter-in-law Bev Vote of Somers; nephew Kevin (Lanette) Vote of South Dakota; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie; son Gary; granddaughter Christina Vote; his parents, Clarence and Opal (Spracklin) Vote; sisters, Alberta Mrzena, and Bernice Fiala; and bothers, Clarence "Bub" and Bruce Vote.
John Daniel Vote was born December 24, 1928 at Somers, and graduated from Somers High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On July 16, 1950 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Allen at Somers. John was employed at New Idea Manufacturing, Busch Hog Manufacturing, and Lister Concrete. He also operated Somers General Repair, and drove school bus for Cedar Valley Schools. John was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post of Callender. He served as a councilman and mayor for the City of Somers for 40 years.
